Barry Demi was born in Halls Creek, in the heart of the Kimberley. Barry spent his childhood in Halls Creek and attended the local school. After completing Year 10, he moved to Perth to complete Year 11. When Barry's schooling had finished he moved to the Northern Territory where he worked on cattle stations. He then returned to Western Australia where he undertook other cattle station work.
Barry started painting in 1994. The majority of his work features European-style landscapes of his country.
