Dianne Rivers was born at Halls Creek Hospital in 1972. She grew up around Halls Creek and from the age of three, with her two sisters, was raised by her grandmother. Dianne left school in Year 10 and moved to Fitzroy Crossing to learn more of her background and to get to know her mother's side of the family. A few years later she moved back to Halls Creek to start a family. Dianne has four daughters and one granddaughter.
Dianne learned how to paint from her family who passed down their stories to her and who still practice traditional law. The elders she worked with in aged care, arts centres, the women's shelter and other settings, also shared their painting skills with her.
