Sandra Mungulu is a prolific and passionate painter. She is the partner of Henry Mowaljarlai and has many memories of watching her father-in-law, David Mowaljarlai, create his Wandjina art. David and her father, Alan Mungulu, were fully initiated members of the Ngarinyin tribe and the first two ordained elders in the church. Sandra's father was deeply concerned with the preservation of his culture and was responsible for suggesting the name 'Mowanjum' ('settled at last') for the community.
Sandra produces beautifully balanced work, rich in story and legend, that shows deep understanding of her strong traditional cultural beliefs. Her two daughters, Carmen and Deidre, also paint and her son Aaron creates pearl shell jewellery.
