Sebastian Arrow is from the Yawuru language group near Broome, Western Australia. He has lived in this area for most of his life.
The well-known senior lawman and artist Aubrey Tigan recently became Sebastian's mentor and taught him the traditional designs and craft of the area. Aubrey is known for his extraordinary artworks on pearl shell. Sebastian is now also able to produce some of the old local law designs and trading designs on pearl shell.
Riji are carved pearlshell, rubbed with ochre. They were traditionally used as a trading device within land tribes and during men's initiation ceremonies.
Sebastian is represented by Short Street Gallery, Broome.
