Ashley Hunter

Ashley is a Bardi man and lives in the community of One Arm Point on the Dampier Peninsula, north of Broome.

An artist from an early age, Ashley grew up seeing his grandmother painting in oils and recognised his own talent at school where his advanced abilities at drawing soon led to painting landscapes, portraits as well as artworks depicting stories from the dreamtime.  Ashley has won the Kimberley Art prize in both the Indigenous and Overall categories and aspires to going further with his artistic career by being represented at more art prizes and exhibitions.

Ashley believes in the importance of learning, passing on and recording the stories of the elders. He is adamant that kids be taught about culture and how the old people grew up so that the knowledge is not lost forever.

Ashley attended the 2013 Emerging Leaders Symposium in Perth.
