Michael Jalaru Torres

Michael Jalaru Torres is an artist and arts worker based in Broome. Michael is head of the New Media Unit at Goolarri Media, a community owned Indigenous media company and is also the founder of Jalaru Photography, who has joined the Desert River Sea project as an established artist and leader within the Kimberley art scene.

Born in 1976, Michael studied art and design in Perth, before diversifying his skill base into broadcasting and photography. Now his role extends to training and developing Indigenous youth, creating valuable community programs.

Michael has attended the 2013 Emerging Leaders Symposium in Perth, the 2015 Visual Arts Leadership Program Storytelling workshop in Broome and the 2016 Visual Arts Leadership Program Curating workshop in Kununurra.
