Rachel Umbagai began working at the Mowanjum Art and Culture Centre in 2008. She works across different areas of centre management and coordination.
The opportunity to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program as part of the Desert River Sea initiative has provided a venue for Rachel to learn and take new skills back to the art centre, broadening her responsibilities. In her view, finding new ways to develop the community programs that will encourage youth into art centres and to learn about the culture from what their elders painted, will help them to stay away from anti-social behaviours and keep culture strong.
The Mowanjum Art and Culture Centre have recently launched a new community arts program called ‘My Face Our Place’, being shared through social media and their website.
Rachael attended the 2013 Emerging Leaders Symposium in Perth.
