Two of the Balmarra which are used in the Bali Bali Balga dance are depicted in this painting. This traditional dance is an intrinsic aspect of cultural life and is still regularly performed in the Kimberley. Dancers carry large thread-cross totems on their shoulders and move with stamping feet and swaying body movements to the accompaniment of song and clapping boomerang. The thread-cross constructions represent key elements of the Bali Bali dance story. To the left is the constellation of the seven sisters and to the right is the Bulla River hills.
