Kurtal

This painting depicts the country of Susie's youth. This country is known as Kurtal and is located near the top of the Canning Stock Route. This is where she lived and hunted with her family when she was a young woman. The E shape in the painting represents a windbreak where they camped when travelling through Kurtal country. The shapes along the edge of the painting are talis (sand dunes) which dominate the landscape of the area. The dotting represents tjunda (bush onion), which is easily found here.
