Maggie Long was born sometime in the 1940s on Sturt Creek Station. She grew up on the station and, from her family, learned a lot about living the bush life, hunting and gathering food. She also learned about traditional way of life, singing and dancing, from her elders. There was no school in those days because they lived too far out of the main township. Maggie later got a job as a kitchen hand on Gordon Downs Station where she eventually met her partner. They moved to Kirkimbie Station where they started a family.
Maggie's paintings convey the stories that were told to her by her grandmother and show the life that she experienced growing up in the bush.
Sadly, Maggie Long passed away in November 2016.
