“This painting is about my mother. In her family’s day, they’d always go out to these places after the wet season gathering bush food, fish, living off the land. You look after the land; the land looks after you.”
Mark’s work evokes places across Texas Downs Station, where Mark’s mother, Nancy Nodea, was born and worked for much of her life.
The dark oval shape in the top left of the image is Doomooriny, a dangerous place, the bottom left is Red Butte and the dark shape to the top right, outlined by a rusty colour is Horse Creek.
