Evelyn Malgil was born in Derby and at the age of ten she moved to Warmun. She later returned to Derby to attend high school and then came back to Warmun. Today, she lives there with her five children and her family. Evelyn worked as a cook on Bedford Downs cattle station with her husband Norman, who was the head stockman. Bedford Downs is Norman's traditional country and is located southwest of Warmun Community.
Evelyn paints her country and Ngarranggarni (Dreaming) stories from her country and is one of the few artists who combines natural ochre and acrylic on canvas; the result being strong, bold and unique representations of her country.
